The President calling Sandra Fluck
I never thought I would be posting an opinion blog about the President personally calling a citizen that testified in front of Congress on a public policy issue.
Here is what the Presidents Press Secretary, Jay Carney said today at a briefing about Sandra Fluck and Rush Limbaugh calling her a slut:
"The fact that our political discourse has become debased in many ways is bad enough. It is worse when it's directed at a private citizen who was simply expressing her views on a matter of public policy," Carney said.
Ok so the President of the United States picks up a phone and calls this woman to express disappointment about the attacks on her and he then thanks her for exercising her right to speak out. Really!!! Why????
Here's what I think. I'm a woman and if congress asked me to come and testify about an issue then I would expect some blow back from those that feel differently. Now I'm not standing up for Rush and the wording he used what I am saying is that I'm not going buy into the fact that all women should be outraged and turn away from Republicans because they won't stand up for women's issues. That is so wrong! So now will the President call others that get chastised in the press, internet blogs or testifying in front of congress? Where will he draw the line?
The President and his campaign people are using this issue to divide the country again. I refuse to get pulled into that.
Women of our community educate yourself and make sure that you keep your eyes open to what could be a slight of hand made by a campaign manager to muddy the waters of the real issues we need to be talking about. Let's tell the President and his campaign staff to stop playing games with us. Let them know women in our community are better than that and tell them to start paying more attention to things such as human trafficking of women and children or how about creating more jobs. How about he picks up the phone and calls people who can help with those issues.
Let me know what you think
